Basiy, I think my connection problem is only half due to my personality; the other half has got something to do with the population demographics of the village. When they told me it was a Dutch village, I thought, "Cool! The Dutch are the hippest, most educated, progressive and forward-thinking people in the developed world! Bring 'em on!" I guess you already knew this, but it was quite a shock to me to discover that the local variety of "Dutch" was nothing like I'd imagined, but a sort of anachronistic Amish sub-variety more akin to Dutch Huguenots or 17th century Puritans than to the the modern Netherlands.

Anyway... history aside, I'm still looking for My People - which would basiy mean: fiesty ladies who abjure patriarchy, "worship" nature, lean to the left, and think it's extremely bad taste to advertise one's religious views without an express invitation! Oh, and who like to walk around, discover new trails, etc - but not women so fit that they will leave me gasping in cardio-distress at the side of the hill! A tall order, I know!
